August 11 and 12 email from Shane

11 and 12 August 2005
Got off of OP duty at 7:00 in the morning on the 11th and had the rest of the day off. The Squad was out at Dog Patch and me and Duiett was left behind because the Squads next shift of OP duty started at 7:00 A.M. on the 12th and Dog Patch doesn't get relieved until after 8:00 so the times don't work out. Well after I got off and e-mailed the best wife in the world yesterday morning I went back to my tent, went and took a shower, and but on a movie. Riddick was the movie that I put on. I mad it through maybe the first 15 or 20 minutes of it and after that I was out like a light. I sleep until about 2:00 P.M. I couldn't believe that I actually slept that long. I most have been more tired than I thought. I got up and at me a quick bite of something. And put on another movie called Man APart. I actually made it through that one. After it went off I read a little on my book.

Then it was chow time Fried Chicken is what we had. If wasn't half bad, no it was pretty good or I was just that hungry. After dinner I came to use the phones but of course the phones were down again. After that I went back to the tent and put on King Arthur and got ready for bed. Went to sleep about 10:00 or 10:30 and was back up at 5:30 to get ready for OP duty. Me and Dueitt went and got ice and headed out to the OP site.

We started about 7:00 and had a nice actually kind of cool day for Iraq. Everything went smooth. Our guys at Dog Patch was very late getting relieved. They didn't get out of there until 11:00 this morning instead of at 8:00. The rest of the company had a little something else going on so everyone else was tied up with that.

We thought for sure our relief would be late, but sure enough they were right on time. So now I am going to eat some lunch and get my stuff together for Dog Patch tomorrow. I get to go this time. So no e-mails tomorrow sorry about that sweet heart.

I love you more than life it self and miss you terrible. Tell the boys that their Dad loves them and wishes he could be there with them and you. By the way the beach wont be so bad. Just as long as I can get all the sand off of me when we finish at the beach.
